Artist's Comments

Sorry for the crap title. But it was all I could think of in the two-minute time span that my teacher gave me to cook up a good title. Anyway, I searched photobucket for some Great Dane pics and I came across this little cutie..or big cutie, I should say, hehe. I basically followed the reference, but I changed a couple of things..such as some of the spots (I wouldn't be able to get them all in the perfect spot to begin with; I'm not that talented) and other things.
I'm actually really proud of it because this was my third attempt at the drawing (on the first I screwed up the measurement grid, on the second I screwed up the linework, and the third just worked out so much better than the rest).
I think it looks better close up than for away, but that's just my opinion. My teacher liked it a lot (especially since now that it's done, I'm ahead in my scheduled work load..huzzah!) and I certainly like it a lot too..and I really hope that you do as well. xD
Sorry for not submitting in a long time, but until now, I felt I had nothing nice enough to submit into my gallery. :[ But now I do! And I'll have a scratchboard/watercolor elk coming on the way once it's done hanging in the school hallway. :]
I think my favorite part of this drawing is the area where his leg/shoulder meets his ear..where there's a 'reverse highlight' as my teacher called it and where I shaded it with a stomp and blurred it/made it softer a bit so that you could see the folds in the skin without it looking like the dog was naked (in other words, you can till he/she still has fur).
So..comments? Favorites? Anything? xD
Sorry if some graph line-looking things show up. I couldn't completely erase them and I didn't want to harm the piece by trying. xD
Also, teacher has a scanner now, yay! That's why this drawing isn't such crap quality. xD

Disclaimer: I do not own this photograph, nor do I claim to have any rights over it because obviously I didn't take it and as my drawing is somewhat of a replica of this photo, I would like to say that whoever the owner of this photo is does not have to worry about me selling this artwork or making a profit off of it or anything like that. It's not my original idea, therefore I don't want to be an art thief.

You should do stuff like this on your own free time. :0 If you pick a picture/subject that you really like, then just go ahead and do it! You already have experience with references, so I'm sure you'd be good at it. I was able to complete this one quickly because I enjoyed doing it so much so..pick a reference of an animal or a person or whatever you want to do and have enough love for it that you really want to do it..and it can be done. ^^
